NTP users are strongly urged to take immediate action to ensure that their NTP daemons are not susceptible to being used in distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. Please also take this opportunity to defeat denial-of-service attacks by implementing Ingress and Egress filtering through BCP38.

ntp-4.2.8p13 was released on 07 March 2019. It addresses 1 medium-severity security issue in ntpd, and provides 17 non-security bugfixes and 1 other improvements over 4.2.8p12.

Please see the NTP Security Notice for vulnerability and mitigation details.

Are you using Autokey in production? If so, please contact Harlan - he's got some questions for you.

Proposed Blurb for the ISC Home Page

NTP (Network Time Protocol) is an implementation of the NTP-related RFCs (and proposed RFCs) and provides an openly redistributable reference implementation of the software, including:

  • an NTP server (ntpd, and the proposed NTP4 RFC)
  • an SNTP client (sntpd, and RFC 2030, and the proposed SNTPv4 Draft RFC)
  • tools for verifying, monitoring and configuring the proper operation of the NTP server

The ntpd Server is used on a significant number of computers and routers on the Internet, in orbit around the planet, and even in outer space, providing a robust and stable platform on top of which an organization's timing architecture can be built.

The NTP Public Services Project (a member of the Hosted @ISC programme) provides support and additional development resources for the Official Reference Implementation of NTP.

The NTP R&D Project conducts Research and Development for the Official Reference Implementation of NTP.

NTP 4.2.0 is the latest release, and is available here.

Comments, edits and suggestions, please!
We need to mention the existance of the two NTP Projects (R&D, and Public Support).

I would also like to know if it is OK to edit the text shown above rather than just talking about what changes we think need to be made. We can always use the diff feature to see exactly what was changed from a previous version and to retrieve text that needs to be reinserted.

Go for it, Steve!

  1. outer space should not be capitalized :)
  2. what is the latest NTP release? We should at least link to the download page.
  3. How do you want to handle the handoff to the respective sites (http://www.ntp.org and http://support.ntp.org) Just have two separate links? "For more information, click here and here".

Peter,

The capitalization has been fixed.

The latest release is 4.2.0. The download page is http://support.ntp.org/Main/SoftwareDownloads .

I don't care if we only point to http://support.ntp.org (which has a link to http://www.ntp.org) or if we list both sites.

Please consider registering at http://support.ntp.org/TWiki/TWikiRegistration .

Fixed mis-spelling: Impleme_m_tation -> Impleme_n_tation
